Organizational Constellations

BRINGING LIGHT TO WHAT HAS BEEN HIDDEN

I facilitate Organizational Constellations, both online and in-person.

Constellations are a powerful and subtle way of bringing to light hidden dynamics that affect systems, organizations, and the world at large. A constellation allows us see what needs to be seen in a system, and provides a path to resolve what is ready to be resolved.

Questions that constellations can help to address

Constellations can be effective for any kind of organizational issue, and particularly when there is a recurring issue or pattern. Examples of issues that can be explored through a constellation are:

  • Conflict or interpersonal communication issues

  • Merger, acquisition, or reorganization challenges

  • Leadership and succession challenges

  • Evaluating strategic alternatives

  • Hiring and recruitment challenges

How constellations work

After a brief interview with the facilitator, we meet with a group of volunteers (either from the organization or a group from my pool of representatives), who will observe the constellation and represent roles in the system that is being explored.

As we begin the constellation, the representatives do not know who or what they are representing. They don’t know any details of the issue being explored either. When the constellation begins, everything simply “comes” to them in the form of sensations, emotions, even thoughts and memories. My facilitation of constellation is double-blind, meaning that no one, including myself, knows who is representing who in the beginning of the constellation.

Over a couple of hours, systemic dynamics come to the surface that are manifestations of denied or excluded experience. Slowly but surely, the constellation provides a space for the system to acknowledge what is, and to include what has been excluded.

While constellations are not a magic bullet, they provide ways to address systemic effects that are beyond the reach of many other approaches and modalities. The client is able to see the presenting issue with fresh eyes and can see the underlying root causes of the challenges, while glimpsing a path toward resolution. Although constellations are not magic bullets, in many cases clients will report that their challenge will change spontaneously and without effort after a constellation.

Practical details

Representatives can either come from your organization or from my pool of representatives. Sensitive and confidential questions can be worked on without disclosing content to the representatives. Fees are quoted per project.
